Practical tools for compassionate communication

An integral part of DEI work involves navigating difficult conversations. How do we create psychologically safe spaces where everyone can share their perspectives, challenge ideas, and use conflict as an opportunity to connect and collaborate? In CCDI's Spring 2023 Community of Practice event, we'll explore using non-violent communication as a tool to foster healthy dialogue and use conflict as an opportunity to deepen connection and collaboration.

Learning Objectives

This workshop takes an experiential approach to applying the principles of non-violent communication to transform workplace conflicts into opportunities for compassion and connection. Nonviolent communication (NVC) is a tool that allows us to express our feelings and needs with clarity and self-responsibility, listen to others' feelings and needs with empathy and compassion, and facilitate mutually beneficial outcomes for all parties involved.

Participants will:

  • Understand how non-violent communication supports psychological safety in the workplace
  • Learn how to implement the principles of NVC in their workplaces to foster inclusive environments
  • Practice non-violent communication skills with your DEI peers in a safe environment
  • Leave with a framework, set of skills, and practical exercises to learn and practice non-violent communication with their teammates
