Marcie Toney is a Mi'kmaq Research Assistant for CCDI. Marcie is currently enrolled as a full-time student at St. Francis Xavier University in Antigonish, Nova Scotia. Marcie's goal at CCDI is to influence positive relationships between First Nation, Inuit, and Métis peoples and Kanata (Canada). She also seeks reconciliation for Indigenous Peoples through cultural rejuvenation in education and the workplace.
Marcie was deeply active in her home community, Annapolis Valley First Nation. Her professional background is in law, youth support and childcare. Along with her role at CCDI, Marcie works in criminal court at the Courts of Nova Scotia, shadowing Crown Prosecutors. She also worked with The Red Road Youth Project in Mi'kmaq communities for two years and continues to be an alumnus for the program. She also has experience as a childcare assistant at the daycare in Annapolis Valley First Nation. Marcie now sits as the Vice President of the Indigenous Student Society at St. Francis Xavier University.
