We are looking for an experienced Software Developer, comfortable working both client-side and server-side, to join its team as part of a start-up development team.

The Manager, Information Systems will be responsible for user information solutions by developing, implementing, and maintaining Java & SQL based systems. You will help define our platform’s specifications, and then design, code, test, debug, and document our service.

This position is located in Calgary.

Responsibilities:

  • Planning, coordination, and management of all application development through the SDLC to post-production and support
  • Defines site objectives by analyzing user requirements; envisioning system features and functionality.
  • Designs and develops user interfaces to internet/intranet applications by setting expectations and features priorities throughout development life cycle; determining design methodologies and tool sets; completing programming using languages and software products; designing and conducting tests.
  • Designs, develops and documents parts of a complex and comprehensive product suite of the Measurement and Analysis tools.
  • Recommends system solutions by comparing advantages and disadvantages of custom development.
  • Integrates applications by designing database architecture and server scripting; studying and establishing connectivity with network systems, search engines, and information servers.
  • Completes applications development by coordinating requirements, schedules, and activities; contributing to team meetings; troubleshooting development and production problems across multiple environments and operating platforms
  • Supports users by developing documentation and assistance tools.
  • Updates job knowledge by researching new internet/intranet technologies and software products
  • Monitor backup, application, network and system issues and be proactive in resolving the issues
  • Maintain good documentation on production applications, network, and system, which include configurations, backup, and change history information
  • Review and resolve tickets our IT vendors
  • Provide IT technical support and training as required, on internal processes & software applications
  • Works with the IT Director to understand project(s) priorities, timelines and dependencies
  • Conduct functional and user testing based on testing scripts and manage issue log up to resolution
  • Provide back-up support to IT Director by completing assigned duties as required to meet the needs of the organization
  • Advocate software quality and ensure the team understands the importance of proper testing and software design
  • Maintaining software development processes
  • Maintaining high level of product quality

Specific measurement tools: Diversity Census Tool and Inclusion Survey (DCIT); Employer Inclusivity Index (EII), Intercultural Development Inventory (IDI)

  • Overall management of project scope and objectives for each client, involving all relevant stakeholders and technical components.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with external clients, third parties, and vendors.
  • Ensure the project is delivered on-time, within scope and within budget.
  • Coordinate the activities of internal resources and third parties to ensure flawless execution of the project (project resources may be based in more than one location)
  • Manage any changes to the project scope, timeline, and budget using appropriate verification techniques
  • Report and escalate any issues to management as needed

Qualifications (Required):

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or 7+ years equivalent experience
  • 3-5+ of experience developing scalable, high-performance, business-critical applications with a demonstrable portfolio of work
  • Experience with Agile development and methodologies and mobile technologies
  • Strong Java, SQL and web development skills
  • Strong Knowledge of data collection, storing, and mining

Non-Technical Skills:

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a solid knowledge of object-oriented programming concepts
  • Adept at articulating the product vision and drive the future roadmap with strong business skills
  • Ability to project plan and prioritize resource allocation
  • Ability to take verbal and written direction and follow through to complete projects and tasks as assigned
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent research and problem-solving skills
  • Solid organizational skills including attention to detail and multi-tasking skills.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment and discretion in handling confidential data while interacting with management, staff, clients, and third parties

Qualifications (Optional):

The following qualifications are not required but would be an asset.

  • Working knowledge of French and/or Spanish.
  • Understanding of workplace diversity and inclusion.

Technical skills (option):

  • Knowledge of message systems such as JMS
  • Knowledge of secure coding practices
  • Knowledge of Git & Node
