Sparking the collective: Transdisciplinary approaches to DEIA

This session, Sparking the collective, calls us to action through deep collaboration. Grounded in the belief that everyone has a vital role to play in transforming systems, participants will be able to engage in knowledge sharing, dialogue and critical reflection that transcends singular expertise. Transdisciplinary approaches to DEIA create bridges between various practices, knowledge and living experiences to solve complex problems or generate new knowledge. Unique perspectives and diverse ways of knowing sustain DEIA initiatives, learning how to apply transdisciplinary approaches will strengthen our ability to challenge the rise of polarization, misinformation and the threats to DEIA.

Together, we will explore how transdisciplinary approaches in DEIA are not only possible, but very much essential to building equitable futures where complexity is welcomed, multiple truths are held, and transformation is co-created and co-led.

Learning and participation objectives

  • Connect with other DEIA practitioners, leaders and changemakers to move beyond traditional compartmentalized learning to spark something more powerful, a collective.
  • Empower participants to connect diverse ways of knowing, including lived and living experiences, across roles, sectors and communities.
  • Develop new insights and knowledge to apply transdisciplinary approaches to DEIA initiatives and strategies.
  • Further develop fluency in critical thinking through intersectionality and reflexivity as key tools to challenge misinformation, binaries and bias.
  • Model the power of co-creating new practices and approaches through shared inquiry, innovation, and relational responsibility.
