COPE Montreal: Navigating race in Canadian workplaces

Race is considered a taboo topic in Canadian workplaces. This reality stems from the fact that people are often fearful of using incorrect terminology or remain unfamiliar with the issues faced by racialized colleagues. This series of Community of Practice Events aims to break the silence around the topic of race in the workplace. Conversation for this session will be grounded in theory and the latest research on race. Participants will gain a meaningful understanding of key concepts and will leave with practical tools to make their workplace more inclusive.

At this event, we’ll discuss:

• Key concepts related to race and the workplace that can create an exclusionary culture (e.g. systemic racism, microaggressions, intersectionality, etc).
• How to collect racial demographics of your workforce and use the data in a meaningful way.
• How to ally with racialized groups. 

Who should attend:

This event is for leaders, managers, or designated employees involved or interested in the planning and executing of diversity and equity strategies that may pertain to racial understanding and integration in the workplace.
